Greetings from Magdeburg. I am a kindergarten teacher, who moved to Germany from Vermont, USA. I entered a very disappointing situation at my new job.1) My contract states that my employers abide by the "German Holiday Law," yet they are not paying me for this. I've accumulated 40 hours of holiday pay since I began my work in March, and they refuse to pay me. In addition, they told me that it is the "wrong translation" and that "American holiday is not the same as German holiday." I understood it was mandatory pay in this country. 2) Another thing I was told AFTER I moved to Germany, but it was not stated in my contract, is that the kiga closes for 6 days during the Christmas holiday. Employees are required to use their own vacation days for it!
3) I'm looking for another job. I hope to find a better, more honest and rewarding working environment- in Germany, but I am not familiar with the protocol. Can you help with this as well, please? Thank you.
