My son applied for bafog last December. He received Bafog.

Kundenfrage

My son applied for bafog last December. He received Bafog. We celebrated his birthday recently and his aunt told him she has been investing money for him in some funds in his name. We were not aware of it and are wondering what is the best way to give back the Bafog money without any further liability.

Dear Customer,

thank you for using Just Answer.

Unfortunately your son could have a big problem , because applying for BaFÖG when you have money on the side is considered as fraud ,even if it is just invested in your name.

Of course the aunt can always serve as a witness that he did not know he had the money.

But it is best to act quickly before he is found out to avoid punishment.

He should contact the BAGÖG Amt and tell them he has come into money recently and wants to pay the BafÖG back in one sum and does not want to apply for BaFÖG in the future.

I wish him the best of luck.

I hope I could be of assistance.

If not do not hesitate to ask.

Best regards

Dear Customer,

thank you for using Just Answer.

your son could indeed have a big problem, because applying for BaFÖG and having money on the side is considered as fraud, even if it is just invested in your name .

We already had a lot of cases exactly like that, where parents had invested money in their children´s name just to save on taxes .

Of course there is the auntt you can use as witness that your son did not know anything about the money.

I would advice him to contact the BAGÖG Amt as soon as possible tell them he had come into money recently and wants to pay the BAFÖG back and does not want any further payments.

Then he should pay back what he has received as quickly as possible.

I hope I could be of assistance. If not please do not hesitate to ask.

Best regards
